Let me begin by saying that Chi/Qi/Energy most definately exsists. The first problem is using foreign words to describe it. Instantly giving it a mystical and mysterious aura.
The second problem is the percieved applications. Most of the negativity and scepticism orbiting around the combat applications.
It is now becoming a scientific reality, so let me give you some of my experience with it.
My sister was probably the first person to switch me on to its exsistence, as she helped to do with many things. I saw that the Shaolin Monks would draw it from their ‘core’. You could literally feel the energy in the room. I also observed, from some study, that it could be used internally for health benefits.
(I am keeping this as short as possible, as per usual)
So, cut to experience No.1 and I am lying in bed one night, not for the first time, focussing my energy. At this time and after a fair bit of experiment and practice, I would visualize it as a yellow light. My sister had spoken of ‘exit points’ on the body where we could push out negative energy. So I used my yellow light to cleanse my body of negative energy, through the point on the top of my head. On this particular night I fell asleep near the end of the process without closing the exit point. This was the night I had an unexplained seizure. GPs, Consultants, Brain Surgeons could not explain it. I mentioned the experience to one of them and, needless to say, they just raised an eyebrow.
I mentioned it to my sister and, needless to say, she called me an idiot. I did not practice this method again for MANY years. I had scared myself quite badly.
Experince No2 and we move into the more debatable region of combat application. One night with a friend of the testosterone affliction. We were watching ‘Way of the Dragon’ and discussing the ‘One Inch Punch’ that Bruce Lee was so famous for. I was explaining to him that it was not about being able to do it in a fight(something he found hard to make a connection with). It is simply a demonstration of good biomechanics. The power going from floor to fist in perfect harmony. I was quite adept at it, at the time. So, the demonstration begun. Now this is a big lad, a phenom of sorts. Naturally a beast. So in my partially drunken state, I decided to apply some inner energy to the hit. I visualized my light, filled my body, then sent it up through my body and through my fist as I delivered the shot. Now, I had done this many times but never in this way, not using my energy. Normally people would grunt and fly back, maybe drop depending on the level of protection. But on this occassion, he yelped and swayed backward on to the couch.
Afterwards he said he felt like he flew backwards and that he had a burning sensation in his chest(it went away thankfully). It took me about 20-30 seconds to compose myself to deliver this blow and had no greater effect than a good shot to the chin does. So the combat application does not lay in the general striking application, not in that kind of focus.
Experience No3 brings us back up to date. I have recently started to tap back into my energy, slowly and carefully. It has changed colour now too. Which is interesting.
So on this evening I am lying prostrate on the massage table where my loving partner is giving me a massage, dealing with my many tight spots and knots. I can feel her energy. She is very good at what she does. So I start to tap mine, to syncronise in some way. It is tough to describe what happened other than I felt what could be best identified with as an energy blast. So strong that I went blind with light for a brief moment. What it meant I do not know. But it felt bloody good.
I have never had any formal training in this type of thing. Never attended Meditation, Yoga, Spiritual, Hypnosis or any other related type course. I have had many experiences. Some out of my understanding, some on my own, some with and through others. The reality is that we do have an internal energy that we can access, and it functions on many levels. Rather than the applications of that energy, we should be more focussed on the exsitence of it, as part of us. Not what we can do with it. Know it is there, feel it, let it connect you. Everything is connected.
On that note, I have said enough. I hope you enjoyed this little blog.
Take care, Douglas.
